Discover Khaab Indian Kitchen & Bar

If you’re driving down 2400 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43209, United States, and craving bold spices and comforting curries, Khaab Indian Kitchen & Bar is the kind of place that makes you slow down and walk in. I’ve visited more than once-once for a casual weeknight dinner and another time with a group of friends who take their Indian food very seriously-and both experiences delivered the same thing: layered flavor, warm hospitality, and a menu that respects tradition while embracing a modern touch.

The first thing you notice is the aroma. Toasted cumin, simmering tomatoes, and the unmistakable scent of garam masala hit you before the food even reaches the table. Indian cuisine is known for its depth of spices, and according to the National Restaurant Association, global flavors-especially South Asian-continue to rank among the top consumer dining trends in the United States. That popularity makes sense when you taste dishes like their butter chicken, slow-cooked in a creamy tomato sauce that balances sweetness and heat without overpowering the palate. It’s rich but not heavy, and the chicken stays tender thanks to careful marination, likely in yogurt and spices, which is a classic tenderizing method used in North Indian cooking.

On my second visit, I ordered the lamb biryani, a fragrant rice dish layered with spiced meat and caramelized onions. Biryani can easily become dry or overly salty if rushed, but here the grains were separate, fluffy, and aromatic. That tells me the kitchen is using the traditional dum cooking technique-sealing the pot and letting the ingredients steam together. It’s a slower process, but it allows the flavors to infuse deeply into the basmati rice. When restaurants take the time to follow authentic preparation methods, you can taste the difference.

The menu is thoughtfully organized, making it easy whether you’re new to Indian food or already familiar with classics like tikka masala and saag paneer. There’s a good range of vegetarian options too, which reflects the roots of Indian culinary culture. Dishes featuring lentils, chickpeas, and paneer aren’t just afterthoughts; they’re central to the experience. The chana masala I tried was bright and tangy, with a tomato-forward base and a gentle kick of chili. It paired perfectly with warm naan pulled straight from the tandoor.

Speaking of the tandoor, that clay oven is essential in many Indian kitchens. It cooks at extremely high temperatures, sealing in juices while creating that slightly charred exterior on meats and breads. The garlic naan here comes out blistered and soft, brushed lightly with butter and flecks of fresh garlic. It’s the kind of bread you keep tearing apart long after you’re full.

The bar program adds another layer to the experience. Indian cuisine often plays with sweet, sour, spicy, and savory notes all at once, so pairing drinks thoughtfully matters. Their cocktail list leans into that idea, offering refreshing options that cut through richer curries. I tried a mango-based cocktail that complemented the heat of my entrée without masking it. It’s clear the team understands balance, not just in food but in the overall dining atmosphere.

Service has consistently been attentive without feeling forced. On my first visit, our server explained the spice levels clearly and even offered suggestions based on what we usually enjoy. That kind of guidance makes a big difference, especially for diners who may be exploring Indian cuisine for the first time. Reviews from locals echo this sentiment, often highlighting both the welcoming staff and the steady quality of the dishes.

From a broader perspective, the rise of regional Indian restaurants across cities like Columbus reflects a growing appreciation for authentic global flavors. Food scholars from institutions such as the Culinary Institute of America have emphasized how traditional spice blending isn’t random-it’s a carefully balanced science of aroma, heat, and texture. You can sense that intention here. Nothing tastes thrown together; every sauce, every garnish, feels deliberate.

While menu items and availability can occasionally change, the core offerings remain consistent. If you’re exploring dining options in Columbus and want something that feels both comforting and vibrant, this spot on East Main Street stands out. Between the thoughtfully crafted menu, reliable reviews, and the unmistakable fragrance of spices drifting from the kitchen, it’s the kind of place that keeps calling you back for just one more bite of naan dipped into curry.

  • I had the pleasure of enjoying the lunch buffet at Khaab Indian Kitchen & Bar in Columbus today, and it was a delightful experience. The only downside was the limited parking, but once inside, everything was exceptional. The food was not just good; it was outstanding, with a rich blend of flavors that truly satisfied my palate. The restaurant's atmosphere was inviting and complemented the dining experience perfectly. Look at these pictures of the buffet selection and the complementary chai-tea. And all these merely $15- that's a steal for Indian Lunch buffet. What truly stood out was the flawless customer service; the staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure our needs were met. I'll be returning to explore their à la carte menu next time because I can't get enough of their delicious offerings. Khaab Indian Kitchen & Bar comes highly recommended for its fantastic food, ambiance, and exceptional service. I can't wait to go back for another culinary adventure!

  • Khaab Indian Kitchen and Bar is truly a hidden gem in Bexley! Their lunch buffet is hands down the best around: fresh, flavorful, and packed with variety. What makes it even better is that they offer the buffet to-go, which I’ve already taken advantage of when I didn’t have time to sit down. I first dined in at their buffet this past Sunday and was so impressed that I went back the next two days for takeout! Each time, the food somehow tasted even better than before! The atmosphere is calm, clean, and relaxing, and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel like family. Everyone from the host to the manager is so kind, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. As for the food, it’s seasoned to perfection! So far, I’ve enjoyed a wide variety: chicken biryani, chicken curry, chicken 65, orange chicken, aloo cabbage, aloo choley, tandoori chicken, garlic naan, saag paneer, bhatura, chili chicken, tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, fish amritsari and Hariyali (which I tried for the first time and am now a lifelong fan). Hopefully they put it on the menu, as I found out today it was just a random surprise for the buffet today. Each dish is bursting with authentic flavor and cooked with care. I honestly cannot say enough kind words about this place. Between the warm hospitality, relaxing atmosphere, and consistently incredible food, Khaab Indian Kitchen and Bar has quickly become one of my favorite spots. I just hope they don’t get tired of seeing me, because I’ll be back again and again!
